Hello! Today’s free pattern is this easy crochet open work top, this was such a fun pattern to design and it worked up so quick! This pattern is PERFECT for the summer months, i used a light aran weight yarn (Stylecraft Special Aran) but you could also try using a cotton yarn to make it an even more lighter top for the little ones to wear.

Mini Kids Open Work Top – Crochet Pattern
Materials and Tools:
> Stylecraft Special Aran / Any Worsted Weight Yarn – 428 yards
> Photographed in colour ‘Meadow’
> Darning Needle – To weave in ends
Finished Measurements Approx:
> Mini Kids 1-2 years
> Width 14.5”
> Circumference 29”
> Length 15.5”
Gauge:
> 12.36 dc and 7 rows = 4 inches (10cm)
> 6.18 dc = 2 inches
Pattern
Front:
R1. Ch53, 1dc in 4th ch from hook and in each st across, turn (51dc)
R2. Ch4 (counts as 1dc, ch1) * Skip next st, 1dc in next st, ch1 * Repeat across, turn (26dc + 25 ch1 spaces)
R3. Ch3 (counts as 1dc) * 1dc in next ch1 space, 1dc in top of next dc * Repeat across finishing with last dc in top of turning ch (51dc)
R4-R25. Repeat rows 2 and 3 (row 25 will be a repeat of row 3)
Do not fasten off.
First Shoulder:
R26. Ch4 (counts as 1dc, ch1) * Skip next st, 1dc in next st, ch1 * Repeat until there are 7dc and 6 ch1 spaces (which includes the starting ch4) turn (7dc + 6 ch1 spaces)
R27. Ch3 (counts as 1dc) * 1dc in next ch1 space, 1dc in top of next dc * Repeat across finishing with last dc in top of turning ch (13dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Second Shoulder:
R26. Locate the last st of row 26 of first shoulder, skip next 22sts, join yarn in next st, ch4 (counts as 1dc, ch1) * Skip next st, 1dc in next st, ch1 * Repeat across ending with last dc in top of turning ch, turn (7dc + 6 ch1 spaces)
R27. Ch3 (counts as 1dc) * 1dc in next ch1 space, 1dc in top of next dc * Repeat across finishing with last dc in top of turning ch (13dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Back:
R1. Ch52, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across, turn (51dc)
R2. Ch2 (counts as 1dc from here and throughout) 1dc in each st across, turn (51dc)
R3-R25. Ch2, 1dc in each st across, 1dc in top of turning ch, turn (51dc)
Do not fasten off.
First Shoulder:
R26. Ch2, 1dc in next 12sts, turn (13dc)
R27. Ch2, 1dc in next 11sts, 1dc in top of turning ch (13dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Second Shoulder:
R26. Locate the last st of row 26 of first shoulder, skip next 22sts, join yarn in next st, ch1 (does not count as a stitch) 1dc in same st, 1dc in each st across ending with last dc in top of turning ch (13dc)
R27. Ch2, 1dc in each st across (13dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Joining:
> Lay both pieces flat on top of each other with wrong sides facing outwards.
> Seam up both shoulders using needle and yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends.
> To seam sides together, use needle and yarn, leaving the top 8 rows unworked for armholes, seam downwards on both sides ( I used the mattress stitch to give more of a seamless finish )
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Neck:
R1. Join yarn to any corner stitch on neck, ch1 (does not count as a stitch) 1sc in same st, work 66sc evenly around neck, join with a slip stitch to beg sc (67sc)
R2. Ch1 (does not count as a stitch) 1sc in each st around, join with a slip stitch to beg sc (67sc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Arms:
R1. With top right side facing, join yarn to bottom of arm hole, Ch1 (does not count as a stitch) 1dc in same st, work 31dc evenly around arm hole opening, join with a slip to beg dc (32dc)
R2. Ch4 (counts as 1dc, ch1) * Skip next st, 1dc in next st, ch1 * Repeat around, join with a slip stitch to 3rd ch of turning ch (16dc + 16 ch1 spaces)
R3. Ch2 (counts as 1dc) * 1dc in next ch1 space, 1dc in top of next dc * Repeat around, join with a slip stitch to beg dc (32dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat on other arm.
